Audio input signal controls

The Capella has the following controls for the input signal: gain - Gives you control over the gain of headphones of different impedance. damping - Allows you to select the best possible damping of the bass. hf - Excessive noise artefacts that can cause ringing in the ears in standard headphone amps, can be adjusted to a more comfortable level.

The headphone amp

The Beresford Capella headphone amplifier is a popular addition to our audio range of products.   The Capella plays audio with ease, bringing to life the music even down to timbre level of both vocals and musical instruments. The outstanding signal separation and three dimensional playback of the music brings new excitement to the headphone listening experience. The Capella offers you the ultimate in headphone listening experience with its clear and detailed analogue sound, excellent dynamics, and holographic presentation. And you do not even need expensive headphones to enjoy it.

Audio amplification and playback

The Capella discrete amplification stage maintains the warmth and detail of the audio signal, whilst the headphone output buffer stage makes it possible to use a wide range of headphones with different impedance with no drop off in performance. A generous amount of headroom provides ample dynamic range overhead for digital music playback, which reduces compression and clipping in the audio output. The Capella has been further optimized for the more demanding playback of bass, giving you greater involvement with the music, and allows you to listen to your music to the highest possible quality level that your headphone is technically capable of. The Capella has also been designed for the playback of both old analogue and modern day digital source material,  giving you an even wider scope of listening possibilities and pleasure to the highest possible quality level that your headphone is technically capable of. These simple design steps deliver a more entertaining natural and rich analogue playback.

Output signal controls

depth - On some recordings, it is possible to focus or soften the central image of the sound stage with the depth control. This can give a better 3D soundstage with difficult to drive headphones. balance - The left and right signal levels can be offset from their centre position. The output is a stereo RCA connection. This output can be switched between a fixed CD level signal, or to an adjustable output suitable for power amplifiers or active speakers.

Power supplies and energy

efficiency

The Capella is also an extremely energy efficient headphone amp., which has allowed us to make it compatible with alternative energy sources. You can power the Capella from a 12Volt battery pack, or even a 12V/1W solar panel, instead of the included mains power supply.

Connection method

The Beresford Capella headphone amplifier is designed for connection: 1. Between the output of an audio pre-amplifier, and a power- amplifier. 2. Between the output of a CD player or Digital to Analogue Converter, and the CD input  on a pre-amplifier. The Capella has an amplified input/ouput feedthrough connection  so that you won’t lose the functionality of the audio path that the Capella is inserted into.
